Dr. Carson discusses high cholesterol in the 5-minute video. Dr. Carson will recommend non-drug management strategies prior to your follow-up blood test in a few months. In our office, we will show you how we calculate your risk of a heart attack or stroke over the next 10 years and what you can do to specifically lower your risk. The contents of this generic video are conveyed to every patient so that, when you come to our office, we can focus specifically on your next steps.
-
Patients may need to watch the video 2-3 times to fully understand, as there is a lot to take in. Be sure to ask us if any of the concepts discussed are unclear to you.
-
Please note that this video was created several years ago. While the information remains relevant, some aspects of cholesterol testing have evolved. For example, we now check Lipoprotein Alpha once in a patient's lifetime and Apolipoprotein B for higher-risk patients. These tests are not discussed in the video and can be reviewed with your family physician.
-
The results shown at the very beginning of the video are generic examples and are NOT your personal results. Please ask our staff if you would like a copy of your results, or go to the lab portal where you completed your test to access them.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation information linked below is intended as a general educational resource and is not tailored to individual patients. However, there is a PDF at the bottom of that webpage which contains several excellent strategies for improving your heart health.
-
Please be aware that we also show this five-minute video in our office as part of our patient education. This video content does not replace a comprehensive discussion with your family physician regarding your own heart health needs.
